Quality versus Quantity: The Great Sleep Debate

Quality versus Quantity: The Great Sleep Debate

According to new research just released, getting good quality sleep could be more important for a healthy and happy life than the quantity of hours we clock up each night. It’s recommended the average adult sleeps 7 to 9 hours a night, and we all know that life can sometimes get in the way of that. This research suggests we shouldn’t be so hard on ourselves if we’re not able to achieve the 7-9 hours recommended to us by The National Sleep Foundation, as long as the quality of sleep is good.

The study by scientists at Charles University in Prague and the Czech Academy of Sciences found that those who reported 'good quality sleep' - which is defined as being able to fall asleep quickly and stay asleep without waking too many times - also reported having a better quality of life compared to those who did not.

This quality of life was measured using 5 parameters: satisfaction, well-being, happiness, subjective health and work stress.

They also found that those whose sleep improved also had an improved quality of life.

Not rocket science, I hear you say. But staying asleep once you’ve hit the hay is easier said than done. Young children, noisy bed companions, stress, menopause, illness, an uncomfortable bed…there are so many reasons for us to wake in the night.

Not only should sleep be the starting point of all other functions, but we at London & Avalon also believe it should be one of the most enjoyable parts of the day. A bed is, in effect, your ultimate personal space, your haven for a few hours to switch off, recharge and renew before starting afresh for a new day.

We are advocates of a good quality night’s sleep. For some of you, this may be 6 hours. For others, this may be 10. We strive to provide you with the most comfortable bed linen you’ve ever slept in, that won’t wake you as you turn in your sleep. The cotton is woven to be so incredibly soft against your skin, you won’t feel any scratchy bobbling from our sheets or annoying pillowcase designs scraping against your cheeks. Just pure, unadulterated softness to keep you firmly in the land of nod. We have countless clients who come back to us time and time again telling us they can’t sleep in anything else once they’ve tried our bed linen.

Ultimately life is about experiences. To enjoy them to the fullest and to be the best of ourselves, a great night's sleep is a must and the true building block of many happy lives. We have built an entire business on this premise, not on fancy designs, but to give our clients the ultimate feeling bed linen for a great night’s sleep.

Simple, but, we hope, effective.
