Introducing Catherine Wilman

We are delighted to introduce you to the exceptional people we have the privilege of working with. Meet Catherine Wilman, one of London's foremost architectural interior designers.
Which of your projects are you most proud of and why?
I am incredibly proud of our work at Belsize Park, where we transformed a former 19-bedroom hotel back into a grand private residence. This was a dream project, not only because of the sheer scale of the property and its extraordinary ceiling heights, but because one of the standout features is a bespoke, top-to-bottom stone staircase that we designed, running from the basement to the second floor - a true architectural statement that looks original. We also introduced a modern glass lift, discreetly designed to bring convenience without compromising the elegance of the interiors, despite the modern touches. We reinstated original architectural details throughout to restore its historical soul. When you walk in, it has that “wow factor” - a perfect balance of period elegance and modern luxury. It’s not just a beautiful house. It’s one of the best transformations we have ever done and it’s a stunning home.
What do you look for when you’re creating the dream bedroom for your client?
Luxury Meets Paired-Back Elegance
We want the bedroom to exude an atmosphere of quiet luxury and refined comfort - a space that invites you in and makes you want to stay. The key to this feeling lies in the thoughtful layering of textures and finishes.
The bed should be beautifully dressed with sumptuous bed linen, soft throws, and plump cushions, creating a haven of softness and calm. A high-quality mattress is essential to ensure that the experience of getting into bed feels as indulgent as it looks.
Bedside tables must be not only functional but also carefully scaled to the room well - proportioned, elegant, and timeless. The headboard, meanwhile, should bring a touch of glamour something, upholstered in luxurious fabric, and generous in scale, anchoring the room with quiet confidence.
The overall look should be graceful and inviting, with every detail such as lighting, accessories, and finishes working together to create a mood of effortless sophistication.
What’s the incoming bedroom trend you’re seeing?
Refined Simplicity in Modern Bed Styling
We're seeing a clear movement toward understated elegance in bedroom design where less truly is more. Clients are increasingly favouring a more pared-back look, stepping away from the traditional abundance of decorative cushions. At the end of a long day, no one wants to remove a dozen pillows just to get into bed. Instead, the focus has shifted to quality over quantity where the beauty of the bedding itself and the texture of a well-chosen throw speak volumes. It’s about creating a bed that looks effortlessly luxurious, yet inviting and serene. This refined approach not only enhances comfort but also reflects a deeper appreciation for simplicity, craftsmanship, and purposeful design.
In your opinion, how does London & Avalon bed linen enhance your projects?
"I absolutely love your Heritage Collection - the linens are of exceptional quality. The feedback from our clients has been consistently positive, with many commenting on how beautifully the bedding irons and wears. I personally appreciate the simplicity of the design, especially the absence of large flat Oxford edges, which keeps the look neat, elegant, and understated. It’s a truly beautiful product, and we’re always proud to recommend and incorporate it into our projects."
